“The voice is the direct expression of the soul” - Alfred Wolfsohn
Voice Movement Therapy is an expressive arts therapy that engages the human voice as the primary instrument to explore who we are, where we have come from, and who we would like to be in the future.
Our voices can express the joy in seeing old friends, the anger at being unfairly treated, or the nerves that shake us before we give a speech, as well as so many other facets of our lives. Using physiological, psychological and creative exploration Voice Movement Therapy encourages us to open up our voices and emotions and take a journey into ourselves that can be beautiful and painful, rich and colourful and ultimately gives us a greater understanding of our own diversity.
Using vocal exploration, massage, movement, song writing, imagery and other creative expression we explore our own communication with the world around us and seek to further enrich our lives so that we may become unbound by the stresses and anxiety that our lives can bring.
Finding a true sense of your own voice can be a long and difficult journey but knowing that you are able to speak out and express the way you want to is a gift, and being a witness to this journey is a privilege to be a part of.
“Our voice is a promise of redemption. Ask anyone who has been downtrodden and they will tell you straight. Having a voice inspires hope where all else fails. Giving voice loosens the chains of the enslaved, rattles the bars of the imprisoned, mobilizes the strength of the starving and defies the domination of self appointed oppressors. The voice is our testimony, our ethic, our plea and our way of touching those to whom our arms cannot extend.”
